Is 25 TDS Safe for Drinking Water?

TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) is a measure of the amount of inorganic and organic substances dissolved in water.

While TDS levels in water are not necessarily harmful on their own, very high levels of TDS can make the water taste unpleasant and may also indicate the presence of other harmful contaminants.

On the other hand, low TDS water is not harmful but it can be tasteless.

In general, TDS levels of 25 ppm (parts per million) are considered safe for drinking water. There can be a separate debate on whether or not this is an ideal TDS level but it is safe.

However, it’s important to remember that TDS level is just one factor to consider when evaluating the safety of drinking water.

Other factors such as the presence of pathogens (bacteria, viruses, etc.), heavy metals, and other contaminants can also impact water quality and safety.

If you are using an RO purifier and the TDS level of purified water is around 25 PPM then you need not worry about the safety of your drinking water.

That’s because water is not the only source of minerals in our diet. Fruits, vegetables, and our daily food contain a sufficient amount of these essential minerals.

But if you are drinking water directly from the municipal tap and have concerns about the safety of your drinking water, you may want to have it tested by a certified water laboratory to ensure that it does not contain any harmful contaminants.

  1. Hi Pramod,
My borewell water reading as per the TDS meter is 031ppm.
Suggest me if I need to use an RO or UV+UF purifier?
A detailed explanation would be very useful.

  2. My drinking water TDS level is 25ppm, which is the best RO water purifier suitable for increase the level?

    • You do not need an RO purifier. An RO purifier will bring down the TDS level to nearly ZERO in your case. A UV+UF water purifier is ideal for low TDS water.
